2012 F150 King Ranch with the 3.5L Ecoboost. We're looking at putting a Corsa exhaust on it because he is going to miss the sound of the V8 he had before. I love the sound of the turbos (first turbo car I have ever driven). She will roast those rear Pirellis once you turn off the traction control, and the turbo lag isn't too bad. It's a cell phone pic, so please excuse the shyster quality.
PS. That's my little truck in the background, isn't she adorable.

Ecoboost all the things!

Nice! Looks great, King Ranches have one of the most comfortable interiors I've ever sat in.
I wanted an F150 terribly bad when I ended up buying the Milan, MPG didn't work with my 50 miles plus per day.

Awesome truck! I just have the 1.6L EcoBoost in my Escape, and I love it. I bet that 3.5L one is unbelievable.

Tell him to get a tune from livernois, they do damn good tuning on the ecoboosts. They have an ecoboost explorer sport running high 12's!

Seconded!! I am about to get a tune for my Taurus SHO. There is a video floating around by them that has a stock EB F150 vs a tuned, the difference in acceleration is astounding.

That would be amazing! I would clearly go with the 2.0L from the Focus ST. God I need to hold on to this thing so I can do that when I have money haha.

I have been trying to convince him to do just that. I have seen increases of 100hp from some sources. Know anything about the effect on the warranty? Also you have to run premium.

Ford is very anal about checking to see if you have altered your vehicle in any way when it comes in for warranty work ever since the 2011 GT came out an inexperienced tuners were blowing up customers 5.0's, and people tried to get ford to replace the motors for them. So yeah, that could be an issue

You been following Project Ugly Horse?

Shoulda gotten a HEMI. Or a diesel. Or a Vortec....
She is a nice lookin truck though. Not so sure about the EcoBoost though. Questionable MPG gains, higher fuel cost, higher maintenance cost. Meh.

I will be paying close attention to the MPG, and we're not expecting anything earth shattering. He was getting 12.5-13 MPG in the city with a 2008 King Ranch with the 5.4L V8. We tow a Ranger bass boat, so I think we were really sold by the 420 lbs/feet of torque haha.
![]() 09/09/2013 at 15:58 |

I think a mild tune could easily net 30hp and 40-50 lbs/feet of torque, and not alter the driving characteristics too much. I think the power increase over the old 5.4L V8 will be enough for my dad. But that's because he's an "adult" and not a 22 year-old, power hungry man child like myself haha.

These seats are phenomenal. They got rid of the old saddle leather that was in his last one, but I appreciate he ventilated seats. I can barely afford to put gas in that little Mazda, so I feel your pain.

The turbo whistle is incredibly addictive. I'm not crazy, I know it's not a race car or anything, but it's got plenty of get up and go for a huge truck. Do you have My Ford Touch? I am waiting for the desperate calls from my dad when he finally just gives up on learning it on his own. My few minutes with it weren't bad though.

Hell yes I have, I was going to reference it, but I was too lazy to link to it haha. I love Zach Bowman from the Autoblog podcast and his writing. Ugly Horse is going to be fantastic and I am constantly cheering for him to finish it. I live in NC and I would happily drive to Tennessee to see it in all its glory.

I do have My Ford Touch, only because it was in the package with leather seats. I really don't have the need for it, but I do make use of it. I can't read about things in a manual and understand how to do it. I have to have 'hands on' tutorial.

It should be quite an upgrade. I'm hoping that he continues to do nothing to the exterior ... ever.

Yeah I was getting rid of a Chevy Blazer (04) which got about 18 hwy (on good days). And had a feeling I was going to be changing jobs within a year for a much longer ride.
I was right, so I'm glad I turned down the Explorer too because it had equal gas mileage as the Blazer. I was trying to go Ford giving they are my clients.

Yep, you made the right decision. The Mercury is basically a Ford anyway, in a good way.

Yes! That's what makes it so special. I think he understands that, and he will keep it looking like the beautiful piece of shit that it is.

Agreed, I think he will make it once he gets hands on. I will try to weasel my way into driving it every chance I get, so I should get some experience with it and see if I can't post some impressions. It has a pretty bad rep at this point, so I'm interested to see how it works.

Yea it certainly pulls. Slightly peaky with the turbo though. I dunno, I'm not sold on them but it's an interesting setup that's for sure. If anything though I feel like a smaller V8 with a small turbo or a small bi-turbo setup would be more ideal. Too much boost will cause a bigger drop in fuel economy than you'll gain in a lot of cases.

Yep, I was keeping my search to Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. I really wanted the MKZ because bigger V6. The MKZ and the Fusion Sport (of that generation) came with a 3.5 V6 instead of the 3.0.
But I love the Milan. It's a surprisingly zippy little car with great space in it. It's treated me well for about 30,000 miles already and I've only had it a year and a half (I drive a lot...mpg comes up again lol). It's like a Fusion with a touch of classy.

I keep having trouble with my cell phone not connecting with it. It comes and goes. I use cellphone very little, except for texting, so that's no biggie for me. And, of course, texting can just wait till I'm parked somewhere.

All true, and I will be the last person to argue with small, turbocharged V8s (Ferrari 288 GTO anyone?). I think that time will show if it is a good purchase. The main selling point is the torque peaking at 2500 rpm. That does create an early peak, but that's what matters when towing and going around town. I doubt that truck will see anything over 5000 rpm unless I'm behind the wheel.

Sounds like you'r enjoying her and that's what matters. Keep it up, my friend!

Very true. I'm really curious how the new 1500 diesel is gonna be, and I'm frekin pumped for the Cummins powered Titan. Things gonna be an animal

I would love to convince him to buy a diesel next time around, though he has been dreaming of an e39 M5 for a couple years and I love that idea even more. Can't tow a boat with an e39 though haha

Also, hell yes to the new Cummins powered Titan. I just hope the new Titan is worthy of the engine.

Why thank you. I actually didn't intend for it be half as fun of a car as it is. I have the 68 Mercury for real fun (it's flowmaster super 44s got delivered today they are waiting for me to collect from my front porch as we speak) so I picked out a responsible daily driver with a crap ton of air bags for the baby that was on the way. And the mpg of course. I also knew the fusion platform (mazda 6 platform lol) was pretty damn solid. Took a leap into my first non 4x4 suv and it's done quite well. the FWD got through the snow in Michigan last year without much trouble....slow and steady...

If its the one in your profile picture, then I love it and I'm jealous. Be sure to post a video of the new exhaust once it's installed. I wanna hear it!

I figure it will be. I've always been a fan of the Titan, some modernization should do it good.

If it wasn't ugly ... he'd have to rename it.

the problem is ford will know if you reflash the PCM, because the PCM will tell them that you did, and they'll void the warranty.

The mufflers were delivered yesterday just as expected! They will hopefully be put on on Thursday.
Yep, one in the picture here's a couple large versions:
